How can I improve my balance when riding?

Generally how could I improve my balance so that I can ride better. My friend says stuff like surfing so please could I have some more suggestions and what has worked for you. Thanks:)|||You have to learn how to relax your lower back muscles, and "unlock" your hips. I found that "Zumba" classes really helped me a lot. Being able to unlock your lower back and move with the horse will help you balance a lot!

It's also nice to do squats on a balance ball.|||The best thing to do is keep riding. An the more pracise you do the better balance you will get from riding. Some things that are good for balancing are lunge lessons as they work on just you and your postition , also no stirrups is a very good way to help core stability and balance , you could also try puttin your stirrups up a few holes and get into light forward seat or jump postition which will not only help with your balance but at the same time strengthen your leg muscles.

It takes time to become balanced correctly on a horse and the more you ride the easier it will be for you.|||If your horse will work good on a lung line you could have someone lunge her for you while you ride bareback, sit relaxed and practice riding with your hands on your hips, waist, shoulders, arms stretched out, up and down and when you can do that at a canter withoud touching anything with your hands and not squeezing with your legs you will be much better balanced.

If you can't do it bare back try it with the saddle but do not use the stirrups.|||ride with no stirrups or even no saddle depending on how well behaved your horse is i have a school master and give lessons on him to a fiew young girls on the farm 1 got a 3 year old on loan and had no balance ATALL so i offered to give her lessons started with walk and trot with no stirrups put a martingale on my horse so when she lost her balance she wasn't yanking his mouth out and now she is jumping bare back, but if your horse is very sensitive to the leg i would not suggest this way as it is not safe, i hope this is some help for you|||get someone to lunge you lots .If you do lots of exercises at different paces with no stirrups this will strengthen all the core muscles ,secure your seat %26amp; improve your balance %26amp; suppleness .My first experience at a international yard was half hour lunge lessons after work cause the horses were sooo good %26amp; i sat a bit squint ,they thought i was asking them to go sideways !!|||besides riding - you need to work on your core. so yoga positions are very good!

on the horse do excercises like no stirrups..

or bounces - this relys on your body being completly balanced!

i find that going out on hacks with a friend and cantering around together at various speeds changing direction or popping over small logs has helped with my balance, as this means your cores coping with keeping you on the horse! this is only ok if you have places to hack and a safe horse.

yoga and horse excersizes have helped me!|||On the horse my advice would be to cross your stirrups regularly and do as much as you can without them, this will also deepen your seat. Off the horse, if you feel you need more help then you need to get a wii fit with the balance board. Incredible the difference it makes to posture and balance!|||It depends on what type of saddle you currently use. If you are riding in a stock/western saddle I would try and all purpose. Or just take your stirrups off and ride without. Or even go bareback. These will all develop your balance further. The only thing that has worked for me is practise and experience... so keep riding!|||well i have a horse been riding scenc i was 4yrd n its all about balance u got learn how to set sraight up kinda lean forward but not 2 much or ur back will start hurting n if ur new at it hold 1 hand on tha sadle horn n barly put ur feet in the sterups push ur knees kinda inwards n ther u go all da balance u need|||Yoga is excellent for posture and balance- Pilates too. There's a lot of excellent balance games on the wii fit, which of course you can do in your own home!|||Ride, ride, ride. you can also try ; no stirrups, bareback, closing your eyes. And any exercises that strengthens your core.|||all you have to do is make sure your heels are down and your legs are right by the horses side..That is most of where your balance comes from..See my questions please!|||strengthen your core. ballet and dance worked for me.|||when you are riding,

look between the pony's ears :)
