How long does it take for balance transfers to post?

I requested a balance transfer from my Citibank card to my Chase card of about $5000. The $5000 has appeared on my Chase card, but still hasn't been deducted from my Citibank card yet. Slightly worrying since this has doubled my debt load - ha. I'd call and find out, but I'm abroad and my cell phone doesn't work here...





Also, I accidentally requested a transfer thats larger than my balance at Citibank - so I will have a negative balance on my Citi card?|||It could take up to a week or so....|||The fact that you requested a transfer of more than your actual balance is probably why the transaction has not shown up. The bank will take care of it in a few days. They have to adjust the amount that was charged to the Chase card also. Unless you are planning on making a major purchase in the next few days there is no reason for you to worry about your credit "looking like" you owe double. Your credit shows that you have the full $10,000 as available credit anyhow so whether you have used that credit up or not you COULD so it is seen as almost the same thing.
